The Majestic was built in 1994 as a movie theater. Showing new Hollywood releases on 2 different screens and renting out the third as a community event space, the cinema serves as a cultural institution for locals, second homeowners, and tourists alike. The Majestic Theater is the only cinema in an 81-mile radius.
Friends of the Majestic, a 501(c)(3), was formed in 2020 by two former theater employees, Carrie Wallace and Conrad Kaul, who were determined to bring back the theater as a symbol of community connection.
Since September 2022, Friends of the Majestic has successfully operated the theater as a nonprofit organization, turning a profit in the first year.
Majestic Plaza presents a versatile canvas with unbridled possibility. Such expansive structures with redevelopment potential are a rarity within Crested Butte, and the story of the Majestic Plaza is poised for its next chapter.
I’ve been fortunate to have lived in so many spectacular places, but nothing compares to Crested Butte. I pride myself on knowing this historic town’s past and its community made of the most colorful blend of wonderful people.
As one of the Butte’s top real estate brokers and land purveyors, I’m not only familiar with our natural resources, land and mineral rights, but also where to find the best adventure or enjoy the most fantastic meal.
